Overland Skills Weekend - Radio Comms & Navigation

June 11th in Lovettsville, VA

This Overland Skills Weekend will feature six hours of high quality hands-on experiential skills training as well as casual question and answer time after the class on Saturday night.

  • Friday Fireside Chat 8pm: Comms and Navigation Needs
  • The morning session from 9am to 12noon will focus on Radio Communications . 
  • The afternoon session from 1pm to 4 pm will focus on Overland Navigation
  • Saturday Debrief 4pm: Radio selection and installation Q&A

No prior knowledge or experience is needed. Instructors will provide some hands-on practical exercises in using radios in a variety of settings as well as researching routes, importing and exporting GPX files, using Gaia to navigate in the back country, and layering different mapping resources for maximum information.

In addition to the instructional time, each attendee will receive a 3 month trial subscription to Gaia GPS Premium.  Please download Gaia GPS prior to the class and set up a basic free account.  Will activate free trial at event.  If you are already a premium member three additional months of Gaia Premium will be added to your existing subscription.

Cost will be $100 per attendee.  Refund requests will be honored up until 2 weeks prior to the event: Friday May 27th at midnight.  A waitlist of alternates will be created on a first-come basis via email (dean@4lowdigital.com).

The event will be hosted by at Aylestock Automotive and Aylestock Adventures in Lovettsville, Virginia.  Primitive camping is available nearby for those wishing to camp out Friday or Saturday night.  A $25 camping fee payable directly to Aylestock Adventures will be collected at event.  Location details will be in registration confirmation email.

These skills weekends are rain or shine and attendees are expected to dress appropriately for a day outdoors.  No refunds will be issues due to inclement weather.  In the event of a State of Emergency, refunds will be available up to two weeks prior to the new date.  Please bring a chair as no seating is provided at this location.

Due to the nature of the event attendance to the skills portions of the weekend (9a-Noon & 1p-4p) is limited to paying attendees.  Any additional guests such as significant others, children, or pets will not be permitted in the skills area.  Periodic breaks will be given throughout the day.
